Kshama is the divine quality of forgiveness and tolerance. Shanti is its synonym in Sanskrit. Although the omnipotent God is keen to punish man for his sins, He has a tender heart which readily forgives even the worst sinner when he seeks saranagati. We have evidence to this effect in Vedas, the epics and puranas. Kshama is thus regarded as the best of noble qualities like mercy, affection etc. Which grant the seekers freedom from fear and danger.
